Meditation is the foundation of a spiritual practice and the first step on the Path to Kriya Yoga. This 4-class meditation series is a wonderful way to get a solid practice started. You will experience the benefits of a meditation practice that will support calmness, focus and increased energy in your life.

Meditation is the foundation for all we do at Ananda Portland. By stilling restless thoughts, you come to see yourself as what you really are: a child of light. You can learn from people who have practiced the art of meditation for years. We have introductory classes for beginners and classes to refresh and deepen your practice, as well as group meditations.

Ananda Yoga brings us to our calm, inner center, where we find the wellspring of peace, inner strength, and mental clarity. Assuming a perfect pose is less important than our state of mind while practicing. Affirmations help us to expand our awareness and to understand the energy of each asana. Each class ends in a brief meditation.

Ananda Portland includes an urban residential community in Vermont Hills, a rural educational campus, conference and retreat center, a new rural community waiting to be born, a school, a progressive assisted-living home and a large spiritual family of truthseekers who live the principles of simple living and high thinking.
Sundays at Ananda Temple are full of joyful energy. The Purification service at 9am includes an ancient fire ceremony and a time of meditation and inner personal offering. The Festival of Light service at 10am includes inspiring music, a scripture reading, an affirmation, brief meditation, a talk by the ministers and a celebration of the soul’s journey to freedom. Sunday School is offered to children ages 4–11. All are welcome.

Ananda Temple is a place of devotion and exploration. We come together in ritual, music, Sunday services, meditation and sacred events to open our hearts and express our longing to commune with, and know, the only Reality there is. In devotion we discover our connection to the Divine that cannot be broken.

Music is an integral part of Ananda. Music changes our consciousness, and uplifting music can help us in our spiritual aspirations. Swami Kriyananda, founder of Ananda, composed hundreds of pieces to uplift and expand our awareness and to draw us closer to AUM—the pure vibration of divine creation.
